NCI Attend ESET Partner Conference

Education director Andy Trish and business director Chris Penrose attended the ESET Partner Conference 2017 last week at Belton Woods Hotel, Lincoln. ESET are one of our main partners who we work with to supply advanced security against new strains of digital threats.

The two day event focused on both Threat Intelligence and Next Generation Technologies. The conference also comprised of informative workshops on current hot topics: 

• Malware
• Phishing
• Botnets.
• Encryption
• Ransomware
• GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)

The GDPR seminar was especially interesting as it highlighted that many SMEs are underprepared for the changes due to be implemented in May 2018. With little than a year to go to the deadline, according to IDC analysts, only 1 in 5 small to medium businesses are ready for the General Data Protection Regulation and it’s new security rules.

In the last two years 35% of organisations who suffered a data security breach reported loses between €25,000 and €250,000. The new regulations coming into force will set fines at 4% of a company’s turnover if it has been found to violate the new GDPR regulations. This can include breaches of data protection principles, conditions for consent, customers’ or employees’ rights or international data transfers.
